The Nick Rossi Set

Nick Rossi

The Nick Rossi Set is Stateside's top Hammond & horns combo. For the past 3 years they have been turning on San Francisco club-goers with their dancefloor-heavy grooves and swingin' R&B sound. Now they are playing up & down the West Coast of California and throughout Britain and Europe.

The group takes its cue from 50s and 60s soul, jazz and R&B greats such as 'Big' John Patton, Booker T. & the MGs, Mose Allison, Willie Mitchell, Jimmy McGriff, and Oscar Brown Jr. One can also discern the distinct influence of London clubland acts as Georgie Fame & the Blue Flames, Zoot Money's Big Roll Band and Brian Auger's Trinity.

Nick has long been a prime mover on the West Coast R&B scene, performing with a number of top acts such as the Monarchs and the Loved Ones over the years. The other members of the group are among the cream of San Francisco's exciting young jazz scene.

Reviews

Nick Rossi Set, Monkeyshine/Five For One
"Monkeyshines and Five For One are both full on jazz numbers which easily fall into line with the finest tradition of some of their mid 60's influences. This song [Monkeyshines] is highly deserving of the dance floor time it will doubtlessly get in coming months at many a Mod club. Moreover, let's hear a cheer for analog recording."
Brian Proust, Uppers.org

"A pair of Mo' Mod tracks in the style in the style that this label favours so."
