Evil Eddie and the Super Slinkys

Evil Eddie

Evil Eddie and the Super Slinkys is the side project of Eddie Roberts (guitarist with the New Mastersounds). The band is so called because Eddie plays a gauge of Ernie Ball Super Slinky strings that are so heavy they have to be specially made! Well okay, maybe not quite that heavy, but you get the picture.

3 On the B / Side Skip also features fellow New Mastersound member Bob Birch on Hammond Organ & drummer Gordon Kilroy who knocks seven shades of shit out of his kit. Together they have created the dirtiest muthafucka of a funky boogaloo heard in New York this side of 1970.

This is a tune that Lou Donaldson, Brother Jack McDuff or Ivan 'Boogaloo' Jones would have killed to have come up with. Eddie's production gives it the rawest, grittiest edge to make a tune so rough you could light a match from it.

3 On The B/Side Skip
"The tunes… veer as close to jazz as any release of his without sacrificing any of the boogaloo beat that continues to find favour on the international dance floor. This disc is highly recommended, Evil Eddie & The Super Slinkys prove that there is room (if not the necessity) for both groove grease AND excellent musicianship on the current scene. This release ups the ante for any to follow. Be sure to keep your eyes on both Eddie Roberts and Blow It Hard Records!"

3 On The B/Side Skip
"New Mastersounds guitar slinger Eddie Roberts has whipped up a side ordee of side project and dishes up some raw jazz boogaloo that makes the Blue Note pioneers of the style seem like they coulda tried much harder at their game."
Bones, Big Daddy Issue 9
