The Apostles

Blow It Hard Records, in association with Acid Jazz Records, are reissuing some classic early Acid Jazz Records albums that have not been available for years and have been criminally ignored for way too long.
There has been a massive revival of interest in Acid Jazz of late with television documentaries, a deluge of 'best of' compilations (even the Ministry Of Sound are jumping on the band wagon), Mother Earth have reformed, The James Taylor Quartet continue to attract new audiences by tearing up every venue they play & Snowboy has been getting interviews in 'Jazzwise' magazine and more. It is time to get these albums back in circulation and get them the long overdue attention they deserve.
First up is the eponymous album by The Apostles, led by James Taylor Quartet Saxophone and flute player John Willmott and featuring other members of the JTQ amongst others. This album, which was originally released in 1992, is thick with grooves, experimenting in many ways like label mates the Brand New Heavies but having a raw, less polished production. The album has what could be seen as the trademark Acid Jazz sound with wah wah guitars and horn stabs, however there are tracks on the CD that showed other musical directions, such as the instrumental version of Marvin Gaye's 'Mercy Mercy Me' and the vocal track 'Come Together'.
As a label, Acid Jazz is going from strength to strength with new signings, as a genre Acid Jazz has never gone away - this album is a classic.
